About May's Guest Poet - Jane Harland
Jane Harland was born in Bowdon and grew up in Wilmslow. She now lives in
Congleton where she teaches piano.
A former art student, photographer and a poet from an early age, Jane often
employs a visual approach to her writing, drawing heavily on nature for
inspiration. Her interest in modern Druidry and nature-based spirituality also
provides important subject matter, alongside themes from myth and legend.
She is a regular performer of her work.
Jane Harland’s poetry is like a time-lapse camera, recording and playing back the
evolving topography of our world, its seasons, history; deftly emphasising their
importance, their right to be recognised in our present lives. She re-ignites our
interest in the natural world, the archaeological; the relevance in each small legacy that we find whether it is a piece of amber or a loved one’s shopping list. She reminds us how we ourselves will inevitably fill a space in this ageless continuum.
Lovely words from Joy Winkler, Poet.
